Power & System Flushing
Over time sludge, dirt and debris can build up in your central heating system and cause problems. While you might be tempted to get a new boiler, this isn’t always necessary and sometimes a system or power flush can get your boiler working properly again.
What is a power flush?
A power flush is a deep clean of your central heating system that removes built up sludge, dirt and debris in radiators and pipework. The process involves using a special machine to pump cleaning chemicals around your heating system helping to remove the unwanted material.
The high velocity, low pressure jets of water flush out the pipes and restore your central heating system to peak performance, and allow us to change the direction of flow to achieve maximum results.
All of our power flushes incorporate a magnetic filtration to capture the build of sludge inside the system.
A power flush is typically recommended every 5-6 years.
What is a system flush?
While both a system flush and power flush are designed to clean your central heating system, there are key differences between the two.
A Magnacleanse system flush is used in conjunction with a heat source such as a gas boiler and uses its pump to circulate chemicals around the system removing debris. A system flush puts less pressure on your heating system so it’s suitable for less severe cases of debris build up and regular maintenance.
A system flush is an extremely effective solution for removing sludge, dirt and debris and you can provide ongoing protection by installing a MagnaClean filter. A MagnaCleanse system flush captures magnetite, a mineral build up of iron ore, using powerful magnets. The transparent hose used in the flush allows you to see when the magnetite is removed and when the water is clear.
When is a flush required?
The signs that your system is in need of flushing include:
- Cold spots around the house due to cold patches on your radiators
- Radiators that need to be bled more often
- Inadequate heat coming from radiators
- Radiators taking a long time to get hot
- A noisy boiler or radiators when the system is running
- Radiator leaks
- Dirty water coming from radiators.
If you’re having a new boiler installed, we would always recommend a power flush as sludge and debris can hang around in old pipework and cause contamination.
There are many factors that feed into which flush is best for your heating system, including its style and age, and we’ll recommend the best option for you.
How long a flush takes and how much it costs depends on a number of factors including how old your system is, how many radiators you have and how much debris is in your system.

We used George when our previous gas engineer let us down and cannot recommend him highly enough. First of all he managed to fit us in at late notice. Then he came early, which is almost unheard of, and then serviced and cleaned our gas fire so that it’s working much more efficiently than it had been.Alan, Stockport
